Cirkular Monday istället för Black Friday!

Circular Monday instead of Black Friday!

Circular Monday instead of Black Friday!

November 25th is Circular Monday, a backlash to Black Friday and the consumerism that the day (and the whole week) is associated with. In a mini-interview with Alexandra Davidsson, co-founder of ClimateHero and the #CircularMonday campaign, she told us more about the campaign and how you can get involved and spread the word. Together we create a future where we consume less, but better!

Hi Alexandra, who are you?

– I am co-founder of ClimateHero and the #CircularMonday campaign that we run. Here I work with communication and partnerships, and am particularly passionate about the circular economy and getting more people to become circularists.

Tell us about the idea behind Circular Monday! How do you work with it and why?

– The idea behind Circular Monday was born in 2017 as a backlash to Black Friday, a day that symbolizes overconsumption and a throw-away mentality. Instead, we want to highlight and promote circular alternatives that contribute to more sustainable consumption. It's about highlighting solutions such as reuse, repair, rental and recycling - where resources stay in the loop longer.

We work with Circular Monday in several ways. First, we bring together companies, organizations and individuals that offer circular products and services, and create a platform where these are highlighted. We also offer tools to spread the message on social media, where we encourage people to share their circular choices, for example products they have repaired, reused or bought second hand. Through our website and campaigns, we help consumers find sustainable alternatives and at the same time inspire others.

Why do we do this? Because we believe that every choice counts. Circular consumption is one of the keys to reducing climate impact and creating a society that is less dependent on constantly extracting new resources. Through Circular Monday, we want to show that sustainability does not have to mean compromising on style, quality or function – it is a win-win for both the planet and us humans.

We are convinced that a movement like Circular Monday can change consumption patterns and make sustainable alternatives accessible and attractive to more people. Together, we can create a future where we consume less, but better.

How can we get more actors to join in?

– Spread the word and get more companies, organizations and influencers to participate in the campaign, and don't forget to make your own social media post on Nov 25 with the hashtag #circularmonday.
Thank you so much, Alexandra, for allowing us to interview you and for the important work you do for the climate and the future!💚
