Who is Marcus Gunnar Pettersson ?

Marcus Gunnar Pettersson was born in 1987 and grew up in Värmland. Marcus Gunnar studied at Konstfack and found his way to his profession through the picture book. He works mainly in watercolor and ink. The motifs often take the form of slightly surreal events, all with a penchant for the grotesque but still humorous.

For OLIKA, Marcus Gunnar has illustrated the books Badbomber & simhopp, Camping & kurragomma and Dansbus & kaktrubbel, which the author Marin Salto wrote after interviewing Roma children about their everyday life. The project is particularly close to Marcus Gunnar's heart because he himself has a background in Roma culture. It is also Marcus Gunnar who has illustrated the book Vi letar skatt, written by Jesper Lundqvist.

Marcus Gunnar about We are looking for treasure

"The beauty of making this book is to be able to show even more of what the present actually looks like. That more people can be seen in the picture book and become part of everything, even the bookshelf. I thought a lot about humans during the process, and how we are born into different life situations. Our approach to "We and Dom" and its problems. How this is actually an outdated ideology that doesn't work for everyone. How national borders and identity can be a hindrance to our solidarity.”
