Book guide: The ABC of clever words

Perfect for all clever children!

Kluriga ordens ABC is a rhyming book with clever words and thoughts from A to Z. For each letter of the alphabet there is a word that is described and questions to think about and talk about together.

Can a sun cat catch a dust rat?
Does a howl sound more than a pile of rice?
Can a worker ant do the sloth mask a disservice?

Questions about words

E as in lone wolf. But the word is a bit misleading - wolves usually live in packs, i.e. together. What do you think is good about being yourself? What do you think is good about being together in a group?

H as in brain ghosts it can be thoughts and feelings that we carry when we are nervous, afraid or worried. What do you do when you get scared or worried about getting rid of your brain ghost?

Exercise S as in sun cat!
Show the children what a sun cat is. A mobile phone or watch and sunlight/light may be enough. Show the children how fast the sun cat goes - maybe as fast as a real cat! Test together and play with the sun cat.

Questions about recognition

In the book there is a variety of different people, small and large children, teenagers and adults. Is there anyone in the book who is like you? Maybe someone who has similar hair or hairstyle to you? Maybe someone who has a skin color similar to yours? Is there anyone who has similar characteristics to yours? Maybe C as in charm troll, or N as in night owl? Is there anyone in the book who resembles someone in your family?

About ethnicity

We live in a society where ethnic diversity is a matter of course, but in the picture book world it is still lacking. In this book there are children and adults with different skin colors. Recognition is an important aspect of both reading and reading pleasure. Getting mirrored also becomes a way to build a positive self-image and to feel included in society. Recognition can happen in different ways, we can find common denominators with people who in many ways are and live differently than ourselves. And we can find recognition by recognizing external things such as upbringing environment, family or ethnicity. By portraying and including children and adults with different ethnic backgrounds in books in an obvious way, we contribute to an inclusive society. The discrimination ground ethnicity includes different culture, nationality, language and skin colour.
