Book guide: Konrad gets dressed

Dress, boots and hats

Konrad and Hedvig are going out. But first they have to get dressed. What should they choose? maybe the bathing suit it's raining or the pirate clothes?

A book that invites you to talk about clothes, choices and conflicts.

Swimwear when it rains?

Konrad and Hedvig are going out. But first they have to get dressed. Mom says it's raining. What do you usually wear when it rains? Do you like jumping in puddles?

Hedvig and Konrad decide to put on their bathing suits when they go out in the rain. Do you usually wear a bathing suit or do you usually swim naked?

Sorcery and conflict

Maybe it is possible to conjure the weather to change? Hedvig tries to take out the wand. If you could conjure what would you conjure?

Konrad has a staff with a star on it. Do you think Hedvig wants a staff like that too? How can one do when several people want the same thing?

Norms around family

Families look different. In Sweden, there are 1.2 million families with children under the age of 18. Three out of ten families are not nuclear families with mother-father-children, despite this the family norm is strong and many families are made invisible in films, books and newspapers. Approximately two out of ten families consist of one parent and one out of ten families have bonus parents. (SCA 2022)

The pre-school's mission is to reflect all different families in an obvious way. How can we adults do this? Instead of asking the children what are your mom and dad's names? can we ask who is in your family?

Make a family star! Another way to work inclusively is to let every child make a family star, with a photo of the child in the center of the star and on each part of the star you can draw and write in the important people who are in the child's life. In this way, you make room for families with two mothers, two fathers, several parents, siblings, grandfather, a cat and yes, all the different people who are close to the child and are important.

The preschool curriculum

"The preschool must be a living social community that provides security as well as the will and desire to learn. Children create context and meaning based on their experiences and ways of thinking. Therefore, in preschool they must meet respect for their person and their way of thinking and understanding the world around them. Everyone who works in the preschool must give each child the conditions to develop trust and self-confidence.” Lpfö 2018
