Book guide: Konrad lussar
Lucia, elf or star cone?
Exciting with the Lucia train. But what should Hedvig and Konrad wear? and how many pike can there really be in a pike train? A book about traditions and being allowed to be as you want.
Questions about roles and clothes
Do you usually dress up? What's fun about dressing up? Do you feel like you become someone else when you dress up? How will you be then?
Konrad and Hedvig argue about who will have the Lucia crown. Have you ever argued with someone about clothes? Who then? What happened?
Konrad wants to be glittery. How does it feel to be glittery? Do you have something that sparkles?
Hedvig's shirt is torn and Konrad's pants are too small. What can one do when clothes are torn? Or one grows out of them? What could be good about not buying new clothes?
Try the voice
Exercise! Listen to different Christmas carols together with the children. Try to listen to the way the songs are sung. For example, one usually sings "Tomtarnas julnatt" (tip tap, tip tap) weakly and carefully. Try letting the children show how the song feels with their whole body.
Listen to another song that one usually sings very loudly, like "Oh holy night". Let the children show how it feels with their whole body.
Then let the children try to sing in different ways, weakly or strongly. Talk about the stomach support, anchoring the sound in the stomach, and making the support as big and strong as possible. Think together about when else it might be good to use the stomach support. For example, try saying no with and without stomach support.
Questions about lucia and holidays
Konrad and Hedvig celebrate Lucia at their preschool. Do you also celebrate Lucia? Is there anything you think you should do when you celebrate lucia?
Lucia is a rather unusual tradition, which is almost only celebrated in Sweden. A tradition is something that you do in roughly the same way every year, or every time. Do you know of any other traditions? What traditions do you have in your family? What are you doing? Do you have a favorite tradition?
Examples of traditions are Midsummer, Ramadan, May Day, Easter, Pride, Shabbat and Halloween.
Nudity norms
From being seen as something natural and innocent, children's nudity has become increasingly surrounded by fears. Among other things, this has led to us seeing fewer and fewer naked children in films, children's books and on swimming beaches. Being allowed to play and be naked as a small child creates security and makes you comfortable in your body. Seeing other children naked takes away some of the feelings of shame that we adults can easily transfer to children when we ask them to dress or cover up. It is also important that children see pictures of other naked children to understand what different bodies look like. In this book, Hedvig and Konrad try on a number of different clothes, but they also try to be naked in an obvious and unproblematic way.
