Body standards
A majority of the bodies that children and adults see in books, advertisements and other things are thin white bodies. Women are often slim and with large breasts, while men are muscular. We rarely see images of trans people and bodies with a non-binary expression. It affects our ideals and the idea of how we should look. The images we are exposed to are not very similar to how people actually look, which makes it difficult for us to feel satisfied with our own bodies. By letting books show many different kinds of bodies, the norms are broken up and other role models are given space. In this book, Cinderella has muscular arms and the princess has a rounder body. We want to make room for more royalty and people with bigger bodies!
About love
Love is a recurring theme in children's books, especially in fairy tales. But the love that children get to share is almost exclusively that between a woman and a man. This means that the expectations of the kind of love that the children are expected to feel become very clear and strong. The need to give and feel love is strong in humans and all children have the right to feel that their love, or that the love that exists in their family is okay. That is why it is important to have books that show many different kinds of love beyond the heteronorm and that we tell all children that girls, hen people and boys can fall in love with one or more girls, boys, hen people. All love is good love and we get all the space under the rainbow!
