Interview with singer Mariette: "I refuse to believe that people are mean just because"

Artist Mariette balances her music career with life as a mother of two.
At the same time, she wants to help others make the most of their lives. The interview with
Mariette discusses life as a mother of young children, artist and fellow human being.

Who are YOU?

Hello OLIKA and all the beautiful souls reading this. I am a tired mother of young children who
rowing life with three small children like so many others. When I'm not at home changing diapers, I tour around Sweden as a live artist, write music and participate in various media contexts. I am especially passionate about spreading knowledge about LGBTQI, IVF and families outside the norm. I want to help people find inspiration to create a life that they may have only dreamed of. To be their security, when perhaps no one else is.

What makes you happy?

There are many things that make me happy. But there is one thing that makes me extra warm about
the heart is when people come up to me or contact me and tell me that
they have begun to dare to be true to themselves after being inspired by the openness
I stand for and show outwardly.

What kind of world do you want your children to grow up and live in, and how do you think we
can reach there?

I hope for a world where we can respect each other's choices and lift each other up.
instead of hurting. It's okay to have different opinions, but people need to learn that everyone has
the right to live in the ways that make them happy, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. I think we need to continue spreading knowledge to gain an understanding of what love actually is and how much good it does. Many of the people who are "against" those who fall outside the norm are probably insecure, afraid or lack the knowledge to understand. I refuse to believe that people are mean "just because" but I believe it is based on something else.

What are you most looking forward to about PRIDE?

All the love that washes over the world.

What does 2024 look like for you?

2024 is relatively quiet for me on the touring front. I've been touring extensively for many years now and this year I'll try to take parental leave, but also focus on creating A LOT of new music in the studio that you'll hopefully hear throughout the year!

Do you have any role models?

I have many… a lot of musical role models of course like Ani DiFranco,
Joni Mitchell, Björk, Peter Gabriel. A personal role model is my friend Malin Berghagen. I am hugely inspired by her strength, openness, constant curiosity and ability to reach people. But really, everyone who openly stands for everyone's right to love is my role model.

You are a role model for many, what do you want to send them?

The only person who can make you happy is you, so be true to yourself. I know how
It may feel lonely, but you have so many people behind you who will catch you if you
falls. You are capable of more than you think. You can handle more than you think.
