My color, your color is an anti-racism handbook for children! ❤️👊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Can we talk about racism without talking about race?
The first children's book in Sweden that explicitly talks about race in the same way as it is done in the English-speaking countries. Author Laura Henry-Allain believes that we need to start talking about race in the sense of appearance and skin color, in order to address racism. She is an expert in child development and works to support parents, teachers and other adults in explaining what racism is, why racism is wrong and what children can do if they themselves are exposed to racism or see someone else being it.
My Color, Your Color is illustrated by Nigerian illustrator Onyinye Iwu. The book contains explanations of important words and concepts in simple language and with clear examples. The goal is that the book together with conversation should give children an understanding of what racism is and how they do anti-racism. Read it at home, at preschool or at school.
Read the blog post where Docent Tobias Hübinette explains why the word race is loaded in Sweden and how the English-speaking world's definition can help us work anti-racistly.
The original edition is published by Ladybird, part of Penguin Random House. Our Swedish edition has a foreword by journalist Rafaela Stålbalk Klose and the book is fact-checked by Tobias Hübinette, docent in intercultural pedagogy at Karlstad University.
